There are two versions of Sound Forge: Sound Forge Pro 12 released in April 2018 and Sound Forge Audio Studio 13 (formerly known as Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge LE) released in January 2019. If you're considering buying this software and want to avoid the hassle, buy it from Xara. Yes, you'll have limits to what the Steam version allows but you purchased it at a discount. The bottom line is if you have already purchased this software from Steam and have surpassed the time to request a refund, contact Xara to get your key. And while Steam does retain a percentage of every purchase (I think 30% ?), Xara agreed to this structure. After all, Xara receives its money from every purchase. In my opinion, it's Xara's responsibility to make the Steam version work just as other versions. It's another case of passing the blame to avoid addressing the issue. Steam, on the other hand, states that it's Xara's responsibility. Xara claims that Steam should have their own system for supplying customers a key that gives them full access. They believed that this would allow them access to all the content.
A few who bought the program via Steam posted that after they received their key, they downloaded the trial version from Xara and tried to activate it with their supplied key. What I read from multiple forums when you do get Xara to respond you'll need to send them proof of your purchase (your Steam receipt).Įven after you get a key, you won't have access to all the content that those who bought it from other storefront get. That is unless you want to take the time to contact both Steam and Xara's support followed by posting in Xara's forum if they don't respond to your support ticket. Based on my short amount of time looking into this, it doesn't look like the Steam version is the bargain it appears to be.
